MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It was with great sadness that members of this chamber learned of the January 28, 2019 death of Mary Hagopian; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born Mary DeRubeis on October 24, 1917, Mary led a life well-lived and well-loved. Mary and her late husband, Charles J. (Moody) Hagopian, shared a devoted and loving union until his death in 2005. In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her brother Mario (Lola) DeRubeis and her in-laws Esther, Anne, John, Michael "Jack," Henry, Alderman George, and Irene; and
WHEREAS, Left to mourn Mary's loss and celebrate her life are Mary's beloved family members, sons Dr. John Hagopian and Charles, Jr. (Margaret) Hagopian; grandchildren Alexandra (Sergio) Soriano and Zachary Hagopian, and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends; and
WHEREAS, Until the last few days of her life, Mary lived independently and was blessed with good health. She continued to participate in her favorite activities including cooking and sharing her signature meals, following Chicago politics, listening to music performed by her favorite singer, Perry Como, and spending time with her cherished family; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her 101 years, Mary touched the lives of those who knew and loved her through her unconditional love, kindness, and caring spirit. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by her family and many treasured friends; now, therefore
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this thirteenth day of March 2019, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Mary Hagopian and extend to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mary Hagopian.
