RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ned R. McWherter has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ned R. Mc Wherter was a former Governor of the State of Tennessee and the devoted husband of the late Bette Jean; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ned R. McWherter was the much-adored father of Michael Ray McWherter and the dear stepfather of Linda Ramsey to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities which he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, During his two terms as Governor, the Honorable Ned R. McWherter was recognized for his role as the architect of a progressive Democratic agenda; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ned R. McWherter implemented sweeping healthcare reform which provided affordable health coverage for the formerly uninsured residents of his state; and
WHEREAS, Before being elected Governor, the Honorable Ned R. McWherter served for eighteen years in the Tennessee State House, acting as Speaker of the House for an unprecedented seven terms; and
WHEREAS, His management of the state of Tennessee made the Honorable Ned R. McWherter one of the most effective governors of his time; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ned R. McWherter inspired the lives of countless people through his great personal goodness, charity and concern; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Ned R. McWherter serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ned R. McWherter will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Ned R. McWherter imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of April, 2011, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Ned R. McWherter for his grace-filled life and ...
