RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Keith J. Shapiro, a widely admired member of the legal community, has been named Co-Chair of the Illinois Holocaust and Genocide Commission by Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this appointment by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, As Co-Chair, Keith J. Shapiro will help lead the Commission which provides guidance on Holocaust and genocide education and commemoration throughout Illinois; and
 
WHEREAS, Keith J. Shapiro serves as Vice President of Greenberg Traurigs, an international law firm, and is widely respected for his many civic endeavors and leadership roles within the Jewish community; and
 
WHEREAS, Keith J. Shapiro is a longtime member of the Board of Directors of the Jewish Federation/Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago and is Vice Chairman of the Defamation League of Greater Chicago; and
 
WHEREAS, Keith J. Shapiro also serves on the board of the American Jewish Committee and the advisory board of the DePaul University College of Law's Center for Jewish Law and Judaic Studies; and
 
WHEREAS, Keith J. Shapiro previously served on the boards of the Jewish Theological Seminary and Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Sciences and is a Founding Chair of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum; and ■
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Keith J. Shapiro serve as an example to all; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifteenth day of April, 2015, do hereby congratulate Keith J. Shapiro on his appointment by Governor Bruce Rauner as Co-Chair of the Illinois Holocaust and Genocide Commission and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued success and achievement in this new role; and
 
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Keith J. Shapiro.
