RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Pete Seeger has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-four; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Pete Seeger was an iconic American singer-songwriter and the loving husband for nearly seventy years of Toshi; and

WHEREAS, Pete Seeger was the much-adored father of Daniel, Mika and Tinya and the grandfather of six to whom he imparts many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, A native of New York, Pete Seeger was a founding member of the Almanac Singers and the Weavers; and

WHEREAS, Pete Seeger was best known for his contributions to the revival of folk music and wrote songs that included Where Have All the Floxvers Gone? and Turn, Turn Turn; and

WHEREAS, Pete Seeger was a prominent protest singer and an engaged activist who championed the causes of international disarmament, civil rights and environmental protection; and

WHEREAS, Pete Seeger was a widely admired artist and a recipient of three Grammy Awards; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, talent and dedication of Pete Seeger serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Pete Seeger to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, Pete Seeger will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Pete Seeger imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of March, 2014, do hereby commemorate Pete Seeger for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
