RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The PAWS Fur Ball, a pet-friendly, black-tie gala which encourages pet owners to dress up their furry friends to raise funds for the Midwest's largest No-Kill animal shelter and humane organization, will be held on November 15, 2013, at the Drake Hotel, 140 East Walton Street in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The PAWS Fur Ball is the principal annual event supporting PAWS Chicago which is dedicated to saving homeless dogs and cats; and
WHEREAS, Since PAWS Chicago was founded in 1997, the organization has overseen the adoption of more than 5,600 pets and performed more than 18,000 spay/neuter surgeries through 2012; and
WHEREAS, The work of PAWS Chicago has helped to reduce the number of euthanized pets in Chicago by seventy-percent over the past sixteen years of its operation; and
WHEREAS, Founder and Chairman Paula Fasseas heads an organization which includes five-thousand dedicated volunteers, four-hundred staffers and four veterinarians; and
WHEREAS, Charity Navigator, the nation's largest independent evaluator, ranks PAWS Chicago in the top one-percent of charities in the nation; and
WHEREAS, The vision, compassion and steadfast commitment of PAWS Chicago serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of November, 2013, do hereby congratulate PAWS Chicago on its many achievements and do hereby express our best wishes for a successful event; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Founder and Chairman Paula Fasseas.
