RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Mike Parker has been called to external life by the wisdom of God at the age of 75; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of the Beverly community, Mike Parker was a widely admired member of the broadcast community and the loving husband of Marian; and
WHEREAS, Known for his authority, intelligence and wit, Mike Parker was a trusted anchor and reporter for WBBM-TV in Chicago" for 35 years; and:
WHEREAS, Mike Parker once said he strived to both report the facts and to tell a "compelling narrative; a story that would fascinate the viewer"; and
WHEREAS, Mike Parker began his broadcast career in high school in Davenport, Iowa and later attended Los Angeles City College; and
WHEREAS, Mike Parker served as a news.director and anchor at KF1-AM Radio in Los Angeles before becoming an anchor and reporter at what became KCBS-TV in Los Angeles; and
WHEREAS, In 1980 Mike Parker joined WBBM-TV and enjoyed a long tenure at the station; and
WHEREAS; Mike Parker covered the "Home Alone" story of David and Sharon Schoo who left their four-and nine-year old daughters home alone in 1992 during a nine-day Christmas vacation to Mexico; arid
WHEREAS, Mike Parser also covered the shooting of Pope John Paul II and the 1981 release of Americans held hostage in Iran; and
WHEREAS, The talent, dedication and hard work of Mike Parker serve as an example to all; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fourteenth day of November, 2018, do hereby commemorate Mike Parker for his grace-filled life and do hereby extend dur condolences to his family: and
