RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael Schafer has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 76; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS; A longtime resident of Glenview, Dr. Michael Schafer was a widely admired member ofthe medical community and the loving husband of Eileen; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael Schafer was the much-adored father of five and the grandfather of eighteen to whom he imparted many of the tine and noble-qualities' that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael Schafer was the dear brother of lea and Theresa; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael Schafer earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Iowa; and
WHEREAS; Dr. Michael Schafer served for 32 years as:the .Chair of Orthopedic Surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Feiriberg School of Medicine; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael Schafer was an orthopedic consultant for both the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs and the team physician for the Chicago Bears from 1990 to 2002; and
WHEREAS; Dr. Michael Schafer was also a medical consultant to the Chicago Blackhawks from 1997-to 1999; and
WHEREAS; Dr. Michael Schafer was recognized with numerous awards, including the Orthopedic Research and Education Foundation's prestigious William W. Tipton, Jr., M.D. Leadership Award; and
WHEREAS; The hard work and dedication of Dr. Michael Schafer serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fourteenth day of November, 2018, do hereby commemorate the grace-filled life of Dr. Michael Schafer and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
