RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, John James McGinty, III, has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of seventy-three; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A native of Boston, John James McGinty, III, was a military hero and a recipient of the Medal of Honor; and

WHEREAS, John James McGinty, III, was the much-adored father of John James IV and Michael to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Raised in Kentucky, John James McGinty, III, joined the United States Marine Corps after graduating from high school; and

WHEREAS, John James McGinty, III, was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions in 1966 during the Vietnam War in Quang Tri Province; and

WHEREAS, As a platoon Sergeant leading a thirty-two man force, John James McGinty, III, played a crucial role in repelling waves of enemy advances during a four-hour battle; and

WHEREAS, John James McGinty, III, braved relentless fire to reach two vastly outnumbered squads that had become separated from the platoon; and

WHEREAS, Finding more than twenty of the soldiers wounded and the medical corpsman killed, John James McGinty, III, hurriedly reloaded his fellow soldiers' weapons and directed fire on the enemy; and

WHEREAS, Despite his own severe injuries, John James McGinty, III, called in air strikes that routed the enemy and left more than five-hundred bodies on the battlefield; and

WHEREAS, Described as cool, competent and smart, John James McGinty, III, was promoted to Lieutenant and later served as a drill instructor at a Marine Corps training center at Parris Island, South Carolina; and

WHEREAS, John James McGinty, III, retired as a Captain from active duty and worked for the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in San Diego, California; and

WHEREAS, The extreme bravery, sacrifice and dedication of John James McGinty, III, serve as an example to all...
