RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Retired Chicago Police Lieutenant Joseph "Terry" Shields has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of seventy; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A widely admired member of Chicago's law enforcement community, Joseph "Terry" Shields was the beloved husband for forty-four years of Carol; and
WHEREAS, Joseph "Terry" Shields was the proud father of Tracy, Daniel Joseph (CPD), Megan and Michael K. (CPD) and the cherished grandfather of nine to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Having grown up in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood, Joseph "Terry" Shields graduated from Loyola Academy and earned a degree in accounting from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana; and
WHEREAS, Joseph "Terry" Shields spent thirty-five years in service to the residents of the city in the Chicago Police Department; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Joseph "Terry"'Shields was a loving friend and wise mentor to countless people; and
WHEREAS, Joseph "Terry" Shields touched the lives of many with his warmth and generosity; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Joseph "Terry" Shields serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Joseph "Terry" Shields to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Joseph "Terry" Shields imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixteenth day of October, 2013, do hereby commemorate Joseph "Terry" Shields for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
