RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Landau has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 99; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Landau was a widely admired member of the medical community and the loving husband for 58 years of the late Claire, nee Schmuckel; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Landau was the much-adored father of Susan Axelrod, Kay Fricke, the late Thomas and the late James, the grandfather of five and the great-grandfather of one; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Landau was the dear brother of Dr. William; and
WHEREAS, A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Dr. Richard Landau earned his medical degree from Washington University and came to the University of Chicago in 1940; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Landau met his future wife while she was working as an administrative assistant at the university and she later became a writer for the Chicago Sun and a medical editor; and
WHEREAS, Soon after their wedding in 1944, Dr. Richard Landau shipped out to the Pacific Theater of Operations where he served as a doctor in the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Landau was a Professor of Medicine and will be remembered for his work building the university's endocrinology unit into one of the most renowned such institutions in the nation; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his long and illustrious medical career, Dr. Richard Landau was known for his compassion and kindness toward patients; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Richard Landau serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Landau was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Dr. Richard Landau imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
