RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Paul Kraus has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 95; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A resident of the Gold Coast, Paul Kraus was the beloved partner for 28 years of Sheila Burkhardt; and
 
WHEREAS, Paul Kraus was the much-adored father of Carole, Allen and Ginny and the grandfather of four to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, Paul Kraus was the retired Chief Operating Officer of Barton Brands, a distiller of bourbon; and
 
WHEREAS, Raised in Austria, Paul Kraus attended medical school in Prague and was an American soldier during World War II whose Jewish parents and brother perished in the Holocaust; and
 
WHEREAS, Fluent in German, Czech and French, Paul Kraus bravely served as an infantry Sergeant in the United States Army; and
 
WHEREAS, Due to his language skills, Paul Kraus was assigned to interrogate high-ranking captured German SS officers while he was detailed to an intelligence unit; and
 
WHEREAS, Following the war, Paul Kraus emigrated to America and worked for Barton Brands in Kentucky, Nebraska and Illinois; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Paul Kraus serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, Paul Kraus will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Paul Kraus imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of October, 2014, do hereby commemorate Paul Kraus for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
