RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Christopher Begy, a widekly admired member of the financial community, has officially announced his retirement as Chief Executive Officer and United States Country Head of BMO Financial Corporation; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Born in Canada and raised near Toronto, Christopher Begy became a chartered accountant and worked at a major accounting firm before joining the Bank of Montreal in 1987; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Begy rose through the corporate ranks and was named Vice President of Taxation in 1989; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Begy was subsequently appointed Chief Accountant, then Senior Vice President and Corporate Controller before becoming Chief Auditor in 2001; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Begy was named Chief Executive Officer and United States Country Head in 2013; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure in this leadership position Christopher Begy championed and expanded the company's community giving program; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Begy actively contributed to many community and civic endeavors as a board member of the Museum of Science & Industry, the Financial Services Roundtable, the Academy for Urban School Leadership and the Executives' Club of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Christopher Begy serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Begy is an individual who is exceedingly worthy of our great admiration and esteem; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-third day of May, 2018, do hereby warmly congratulate Christopher Begy on the occasion of his retirement and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued good health, prosperity and success; and
