RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, On Thursday, September 11, 2014, United States Army General Stanley McChrystal will commemorate the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks at a benefit in Chicago for the Navy SEAL Foundation; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, General Stanley McChrystal is widely credited for the killing of al-Qaeda leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in 2006 and the 2003 capture of Saddam Hussein; and

WHEREAS, The gathering will honor the endless sacrifices and enduring support of loved ones who give SEALS the strength to execute highly dangerous missions which protect the lives of Americans; and

WHEREAS, General Stanley McChrystal will be joined at this event by Vice Admiral Robert Harward and Rear Admiral Scott Moore; and

WHEREAS, The Navy SEAL Foundation provides immediate and ongoing support and assistance to the Naval Special Warfare Community and its families; and

WHEREAS, Since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, there has been an unprecedented demand for Special Operations Forces around the globe; and

WHEREAS, Navy SEALS spend up to 270 days a year away from home in the most unforgiving environments and train at an unrelenting pace in order to execute our nation's toughest military missions; and

WHEREAS, General Stanley McChrystal is the former Commander of United States and international forces in Afghanistan and the former leader of Joint Special Operations Command which oversees the military's most sensitive missions; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of General Stanley McChrystal serve as an example to all; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of September, 2014, do hereby extend our respect and sympathy to the families of the victims of the 9/11 attacks on the occasion of this solemn anniversary and do hereby commend the Navy SEALS for their dedicated service on behalf of all...
