RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Marilyn Miglin has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 83; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn is survived by her two children, Marlena and Duke Miglin, family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn grew up in Chicago as Marilyn Klecka, and graduated from Schurz High School on the Northwest Side; and
WHEREAS, She attended Northwestern University on a math scholarship but never graduated because she needed to work to help support herself and her family; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn was 21 when she met her first husband, Lee Miglin who was a real estate developer. After his passing, she married two years later to her second husband, Egyptian Naguib Mankarious who passed in 2000; and
WHEREAS, Her jobs included nurse's assistant, department store model, ballet teacher and dancer at the legendary Chez Paree nightclub, where she performed alongside entertainers including Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Jimmy Durante; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn started her beauty company and boutique in June 1963 on Oak Street, which grew to become a cosmetics empire; and
WHEREAS, She went on to invent over 36 fragrances and perfumes'through Marilyn Miglin Cosmetics; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn was a host on the Home Shopping Network for over 25 years; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn served on Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley's Special Committee on Tourism, as an Officer ofthe Chicago Convention, the State of Illinois Board of Economic Development, and on the Board of Directors of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn was a longtime Gold Coast resident, and helped transform Oak Street into one of the City's most chic shopping blocks. She helped organize and formerly headed the Oak Street Council of Merchants; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Marilyn imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
