RESOLUTION



WHEREAS, Jerrold Rosenwasser has retired as the owner of New York Jewelers located at 11 North Wabash Avenue in Chicago's Jewelers Row District; and
WHEREAS, A native of New York City, Jerrold Rosenwasser was the son of a door-to-door insurance salesman and the grandson of an immigrant from Hungary; and
WHEREAS, Jerrold Rosenwasser moved with his family to Chicago's North Side and graduated from Sullivan High School and the University of Illinois at Chicago; and
WHEREAS, A military veteran, Jerrold Rosenwasser served his country as a member of the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, Jerrold Rosenwasser originally opened his business in 1958 on South State Street under the name New York Loan and Collateral, Ltd.; and
WHEREAS, In 1980 the business was renamed New York Jewelers and relocated to 3 South Wabash Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Soon after, Jerrold Rosenwasser was joined in the business by four of his five sons, Sam, Fred, James and David; and
WHEREAS, In 1995 New York Jewelers moved to its current location at 11 North Wabash Avenue where it continues to employ 50 workers and ranks as one of the largest single-store retail/wholesale jewelry operations in the nation; and
WHEREAS, Jerrold Rosenwasser has long been assisted by his wife, Jackie, who also recently retired from the business; and
WHEREAS, Jerrold Rosenwasser is a proud and longtime member of the Greater State Street Council and is active in numerous civic and charitable causes; and
WHEREAS, In his retirement Jerrold Rosenwasser plans to devote more time to his 18 grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Jerrold Rosenwasser is an individual who is exceedingly worthy of our admiration and esteem; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-second day of June, 2016, do hereby congratulate Jerrold Rosenwasser on the occasion of his retirement and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued good health, happiness and prosperity; and
