RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Otis Pike has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-two; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Otis Pike was the loving husband of Barbe; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Otis Pike was the much-adored father of three children to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A native of Riverhead, New York, the Honorable Otis Pike bravely served his country in the United States Marines Corps as a dive bomber and night fighter pilot in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II; and
WHEREAS, A highly influential leader on Capitol Hill, the Honorable Otis Pike ably served for eighteen years as a Congressman from New York's 1st District; and
WHEREAS, In 1975 and 1976, the Honorable Otis Pike chaired the House Select Committee on Intelligence, and was a longstanding member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Ways and Means Committee; and
WHEREAS, Following his retirement from Congress in 1978, the Honorable Otis Pike wrote a syndicated column for Newhouse Newspapers for twenty years; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Otis Pike serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Otis Pike to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Otis Pike will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Otis Pike imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
