WHEREAS, David Fagus has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of fifty-two; and
WHEREAS, The City of Chicago has been informed of his passing by Alderman Joseph A. Moore; and
WHEREAS, David Fagus was a community leader in the 49th Ward for four decades, serving in many leadership roles, most prominently that of Democratic Committeeman; and
WHEREAS, David Fagus was a true practitioner of the "big tent" theory of political involvement by building bridges across disagreements, including the ideas of many, and fighting for solutions to the common challenges faced by the community; and
WHEREAS, David Fagus was a lifelong resident of Edgewater and Rogers Park, having attended Sacred Heart Academy and graduating from Notre Dame High School, then earning his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Illinois at Springfield, and a Master's degree in Public Administration at Roosevelt University; and
WHEREAS, David Fagus worked for more than twenty years in the Cook County health system to serve the medically uninsured and underinsured; and
WHEREAS, David Fagus most recently shared his talents in health care and finance to begin the process with Governor Pat Quinn to build the Illinois Health Information Exchange; and
WHEREAS, David Fagus first became Democratic Committeeman of the 49th Ward in 1993, joining forces with Alderman Joe Moore and bridging the divide between "Regular" and "Independent" Democrats; and
WHEREAS, David Fagus worked tirelessly to build a ward organization responsive to its members, giving them the power to endorse candidates, rather than hold that power exclusively among party leadership; and
WHEREAS, David Fagus not only empowered others but led others when appropriate, having been the first north side committeeman to endorse then-State Senator Barack Obama in his bid for United States Senate; and
