RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Sheldon Sternberg has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 92; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A resident of Lincolnshire, Sheldon Sternberg was a widely admired member of the business community and the loving husband of Elaine, nee Oscherwitz; and
 
WHEREAS, Sheldon Sternberg was the much-adored father of Michael, Susan, Nancy and David, the grandfather of twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, Sheldon Sternberg was born in Chicago on February 27,1923, and served his country during World War II as a navigator in the United States Air Force; and
 
WHEREAS, Sheldon Sternberg participated in eight bombing missions and dropped food over the Netherlands to help starving children; and
 
WHEREAS, Sheldon Sternberg served as the President of the Chicago-based Best's Kosher Sausage Company, which was founded in 1886, and went on to produce hot dogs that were served at Wrigley Field and as far away as Japan; and
 
WHEREAS, Sheldon Sternberg was a founding member of Congregation Rodfei Shalom in Chicago; and
 
WHEREAS, Sheldon Sternberg was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and loved books, golf, bridge, politics and most of all his family; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Sheldon Sternberg serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Sheldon Sternberg to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
 
WHEREAS, Sheldon Sternberg was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Sheldon Sternberg imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of May, 2015, do hereby commemorate Sheldon Sternberg for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sheldoyh Sternberg. /
