RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Robert Coleman has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 70; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A longtime resident of River Forest, Robert Coleman was a widely admired member of the legal community and the loving husband for 48 years of Marcia; and

 

WHEREAS, Robert Coleman was the much-adored father of Cassie and the grandfather of three to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, Robert Coleman was the dear brother of Carol and Richard; and

 

WHEREAS, Raised on the Southwest Side, Robert Coleman attended Bogan High School and earned his bachelor's and law degrees from DePaul University; and

 

WHEREAS, Robert Coleman began his career with the Illinois Attorney General's Office where he rose to become Assistant Chief of the Antitrust Division; and

 

WHEREAS, Robert Coleman left public service in 1974 to go into private practice and became a partner in the firm of Freeman Atkins & Coleman where he specialized in class action securities, antitrust and consumer fraud cases; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1984 Robert Coleman founded his own firm, which today is the Coleman Law Firm that handles complex commercial litigation; and

 

WHEREAS, In 2002 Robert Coleman crisscrossed the state in an unsuccessful bid for the Republican nomination for Illinois Attorney General and ran a campaign which emphasized his skill as a litigator; and

 

WHEREAS, Robert Coleman was a member of the Board of Directors of Chicago-based PrivateBancorp; and

 

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Robert Coleman serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Robert Coleman to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, Robert Coleman was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Robert Coleman imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth-ninth day of July, 2015, do hereby commemorate Robert Coleman for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert Coleman.
