RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, James Rondeau, an internationally respected curator and scholar, has been appointed to serve as the new President and Director of the Art Institute of Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, James Rondeau succeeds Douglas Druick who announced his plans to retire following more than 30 years of service to the Museum; and

 

WHEREAS, James Rondeau joined the Art Institute in 1988; and has made the Institute his home for nearly two decades; and

 

WHEREAS, Prior to his new appointment, James Rondeau was the Dittmer Chair and Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art; and

 

WHEREAS, Under the leadership of James Rondeau, the Museum secured the largest gift in its history, the Edlis/Neeson Collection; and

 

WHEREAS, James Rondeau has organized and contributed to some of the most groundbreaking exhibitions and installations including Charles Ray: Sculpture, 1998-2015, Steve McQueen, Roy Lichtehstein: A Retrospective and Jasper Johns; and

 

WHEREAS, James Rondeau has published extensively and has thirteen exhibition catalogues to his credit as well as numerous articles and essays; and

 

WHEREAS, The recipient of many honors and awards, James Rondeau serves on many panels and boards, including the Poetry Foundation in Chicago and the National Endowment for the Arts; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of James Rondeau serve as an example to all; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of February, 2016, do hereby congratulate James Rondeau on his appointment as President and Director of the Art Institution of Chicago and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued success and achievement; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to James Rondeau.
