RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Honorable William L. Armstrong has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 79; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable William L. Armstrong was a former United States Senator from Colorado and the loving husband of Ellen, nee Eaton; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable William L. Armstrong was the much-adored father of Anne and Wii to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, A native of Fremont, Nebraska, the Honorable William L. Armstrong operated the Armstrong Broadcasting Company and Ambassador Media Corporation as well as the Colorado Sun Newspaper, a radio station and three ABC television stations; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable William L. Armstrong was a member of the Colorado House of Representatives from 1963 to 1964 and the Colorado Senate from 1965 to 1972; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable William L. Armstrong was elected to the United States Senate in 1979 where he served until 1991 and earned a reputation as a leading conservative voice on Capitol Hill; and

WHEREAS, Following his retirement from the Senate, the Honorable William L. Armstrong served as the Director of Campus Crusade for Christ and as the President of Colorado Christian University; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable William L. Armstrong serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable William L. Armstrong was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable William L. Armstrong imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of July, 2016, do hereby commemorate the Honorable William L. Armstrong ...
