RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Phil Georgeff has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 85; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Phil Georgeff was born on January 1, 1931 and was raised on the West Side; and

 

WHEREAS, Phil Georgeff graduated from Austin High School before earning a journalism degree at Northwestern University specializing in radio and television; and

 

WHEREAS, Phil Georgeff met his future wife, Bobbi, when he was 20 and she was 15 at a Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall; and

 

WHEREAS, The couple married four years later in 1954; and

 

WHEREAS, Phil Georgeff enjoyed a legendary career as a broadcaster and was considered "one of the premier race callers in the United States" and "The Voice of Chicago Racing"; and

 

WHEREAS, Phil Georgeff worked at all of the area's tracks and coined the term "And here they come spinning out of the turn" which from the outset of his career became his trademark; and

 

WHEREAS, For decades, Phil Georgeff called thoroughbred in the afternoon and harness races at night; and

 

WHEREAS, Phil Georgeff earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records by calling 96,131 races; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Phil Georgeff to his family members, friends and all who, knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Phil Georgeff serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, To his devoted wife, Bobbi, and his son, Scot, Phil Georgeff imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixteenth day of November, 2016, do hereby commemorate Phil Georgeff for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and .

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family/<wPhil Georgeff.
