RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Edward Tipper has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 95; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Edward Tipper was the loving and devoted husband of Rosalina; and

 

WHEREAS, Edward Tipper was the much-adored father of Kerry to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, The son of Irish immigrants, Edward Tipper was raised in Detroit, Michigan during the Great Depression; and

 

WHEREAS, Edward Tipper served in the 101st Airborne Division during World War II as a member of Easy Company made famous by Stephen Ambrose's book "Band of Brothers" and the HBO miniseries of the same name; and

 

WHEREAS, Edward Tipper parachuted into France on June 6, 1944 as part of the D-Day invasion and was severely wounded; and

 

WHEREAS, Edward Tipper was hospitalized for a year and was the recipient of a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star; and

 

WHEREAS, After the war, Edward Tipper attended the University of Michigan, the University of Northern Colorado and Colorado State College of Education; and

 

WHEREAS, Edward Tipper enjoyed a highly successful career as a teacher that spanned 30 years; and

 

WHEREAS, The bravery, sacrifice and dedication of Edward Tipper serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Edward Tipper imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of March, 2017, do hereby commemorate Edward Tipper for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Edward Tipper.
