RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 67; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush was the loving and devoted wife for 36 years of Congressman Bobby Rush; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn and Bobby Rush were the parents of a blended family that included seven children, one of them deceased, and 11 grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Born May 27, 1949 in Memphis, Tennessee, Carolyn Rush moved to Chicago at a young age and graduated from Hirsch High School; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush earned a bachelor's degree from Roosevelt University where she studied organizational leadership and became a community organizer and a Democratic precinct captain; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush was an influential figure in the civil rights movement and worked to end discrimination in employment and housing; and
WHEREAS, Throughout many re-election campaigns, Carolyn Rush served as her husband's top political advisor and strategist; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Carolyn Rush serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Carolyn Rush imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of March, 2017, do hereby commemorate Carolyn Rush for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
