WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the members of this Chamber learned of God in His Infinite Wisdom, calling home Mr. Jackie Monroe Moss, most beloved citizen, to his eternal reward on March 16, 2017; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Walter Burnett, Jr., Alderman of the 27th Ward and the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jackie Monroe Moss, was born February 5, 1948, in Yazoo, Mississippi, to George Washington Moss and Doris Montgomery, both of whom preceded him in death. Jackie confessed his love for Christ at an early age. He married his childhood sweetheart, Minnie B. Moss, in 1968, and of that union, two sons were born. Jackie was known by his family and friends as a very strong willed and spirited person who loved life and people; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jackie Monroe Moss was very active in his community. In 1972, he and Minnie organized the Jackson Cougars Softball team, to keep young men in the community active and off the streets. Jackie also volunteered as a basketball, football, and baseball coaching assistant for Marshall High School. His passion for helping youth led him to volunteering citywide with the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago, to donating basketball jerseys to the St. Paul Lutheran boys basketball team, to countless other ways in which he showed people he cared about them and that they mattered; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Jackie Monroe Moss graduated from Coahoma Agricultural High School in 1965, from there he attended Mississippi Industrial College where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology in August of 1971; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jackie Monroe Moss led a distinguished professional career. Jackie was awarded for his dedication as Precinct Captain of the 28th Precinct / 37th Ward, under former Alderman Percy Giles, and later became President of the organizati...
