RESOLUTION

 

 

 

 

WHEREAS, Hugh Hefner has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 91; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Hugh Hefner was the founder of Playboy magazine and the father of David, Christie, Cooper and Marston; and

WHEREAS, Hugh Hefner was born to Glenn, an accountant, and Grace Hefner, a teacher, and raised at 1922 North New England Avenue near Sayre Park; and

WHEREAS, Hugh Hefner graduated from Steinmetz High School and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; and

WHEREAS, Hugh Hefner served from 1944 to 1946 in the United States Army as a writer for a military newspaper; and

WHEREAS, During the early 1950s, Hugh Hefner worked as a copywriter in the Chicago office of Esquire magazine but quit the publication after he was denied a $5 raise and the publication moved to New York; and

WHEREAS, Hugh Hefner raised $8,000 from 45 investors to found Playboy magazine in 1953 and produced its first edition, which sold 50,000 copies, out of his South Side home; and

WHEREAS, Hugh Hefner served as Editor-in-Chief of the magazine which went on to surpass Esquire magazine in circulation; and

WHEREAS, Hugh Hefner expanded his growing empire to include Playboy clubs and resort hotels; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Hugh Hefner imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eleventh day of October, 2017, do hereby express our condolences to the family of Hugh Hefner; and

 

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Hugh Hefner.
