RESOLUTION

 

 

 

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Robert Unger has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 93; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A longtime resident of the Garfield Ridge neighborhood, Dr. Robert Unger was a the loving and devoted husband for 68 years of Dorothy; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Robert Unger was the much-adored father of Dr. Joseph, Robert, Richard, Margaret, Marilyn and Dorothy, the grandfather of eight and the great grandfather of three to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Robert Unger was the brother of Hilda Joy and Rudolph, a retired Chicago Tribune reporter; and

WHEREAS, Born in Chicago to Austrian immigrant parents, Dr. Robert Unger was raised in the Fuller Park neighborhood; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Robert Unger served in the United States Army during World War II and graduated from the Chicago College of Dental Surgery; and

WHEREAS, In 1948 Dr. Robert Unger opened his own dental practice at 63rd Street and Western Avenue; and

WHEREAS, From 1950 until 1965, Dr. Robert Unger oversaw the dental clinic at the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. School for Exceptional Children in Palos Park; and

WHEREAS, A forceful advocate for fluoridation in drinking water during the 1960s, Dr. Robert Unger was a former Trustee of the American Dental Association and former President of the Illinois State Dental Society; and

WHEREAS, A widely respected dentist committed to the highest ideals of his profession, Dr. Robert Unger practiced part-time when he became 70 years old and fully retired in 2006; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Robert Unger serve as an example to all; and

 

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Dr. Robert Unger to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Dr. Robert Unger imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eleventh day of October, 2017, do hereby commemorate Dr. Robert Unger for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Robert Unger.
