RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Dr. Gerald F. Loftus has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 83; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Chicago, Dr. Gerald F. Loftus was a widely admired member of the medical community and the loving husband of Mary Clare, nee Shevlin; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Gerald F. Loftus was the much-adored father of Mary Frances, Amy, Brian and Daniel and the grandfather of four to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Gerald F. Loftus was team physician for the Chicago White Sox and practiced at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center where he was Chairman of Orthopedics in 1976 and President of the medial staff in 1979; and

WHEREAS, In 1968 Dr. Gerald F. Loftus founded Midland Orthopedic Associates which grew from a solo practice into a thriving medical office; and

WHEREAS, Following a long and highly successful career, Dr. Gerald F. Loftus retired in 2000 and enjoyed traveling and gardening at his summer home in Long Beach, Indiana; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Gerald F. Loftus serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Dr. Gerald F. Loftus to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Dr. Gerald F. Loftus imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifteenth day of November, 2017, do hereby commemorate Dr. Gerald F. Loftus for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution presented to the family of Dr. Gerald F. Loftus.
