RESOLUTION




WHEREAS, Thomas J. Hudner Jr. has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 93; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Concord, Massachusetts, Thomas J. Hudner Jr. was the loving and devoted husband for 49 years of Georgea, nee Farmer; and
WHEREAS, Thomas J. Hudner Jr. was the much-adored father of Thomas III, the step-father of Stanford, Kelly and Shannon, the grandfather of twelve and the great-grandfather of one to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Thomas J. Hudner Jr. was the dear brother of Mary and Philip and the late James and Richard; and
WHEREAS, A native of Fall River, Massachusetts, Thomas J. Hudner Jr. bravely served as a Captain in the United States Navy and was honored by President Harry Truman for heroics during the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, Thomas J. Hudner Jr. received the Medal of Honor in 1950 after he purposely crash-landed his plane into an enemy mountainside in a failed but valiant attempt to rescue and extricate Ensign James Brown, his friend and wingman, from the wreck of his aircraft; and
WHEREAS, Ensign James Brown was the first black combat pilot to serve in the United States Navy; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his service to his country, the United States Navy commissioned a destroyer as the USS Thomas Hudner Jr. on his 92nd birthday; and
WHEREAS, The courage, sacrifice and dedication of Thomas J. Hudner Jr. serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Thomas J. Hudner Jr. to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Thomas J. Hudner Jr. imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
