RESOLUTION

 

 

 

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Donald Jacobs has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 90; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Evanston, Dr. Donald Jacobs was the Dean of Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Business; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Donald Jacobs joined Northwestern University in 1957 as an assistant professor of finance and became Dean in 1975; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Donald Jacobs served as Dean from 1975 to 2001 and continued to teach at the University until 2016; and

WHEREAS, Northwestern President Morton Schapiro called Dr. Donald Jacobs "a transformational leader for Kellogg, for Northwestern and for American higher education"; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Donald Jacobs established executive programs and shorter courses on management and business leadership that brought working business professionals in contact with school faculty; and

WHEREAS, In 1979 Dr. Donald Jacobs opened the James L. Allen Center as the first of its kind continuing education center; and

WHEREAS, In recognition of his contributions, Northwestern University established the Jacobs Wing in the new Global Hub and the Donald P. Jacobs Center in his honor; and

WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Dr. Donald Jacobs and served his country in )   the United States Navy during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Donald Jacobs graduated from Roosevelt University before completing a doctorate degree in economics from Columbia University in New York; and

 

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Donald Jacobs serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Dr. Donald Jacobs to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his three children, Ann, Leesah and David, his five grandchildren and his five great-grandchildren, Dr. Donald Jacobs imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-first day of November, 2017, do hereby commemorate Dr. Donald Jacobs for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Donald Jacobs.
