RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Leonard Boswell has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 84; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Leonard Boswell was a former Iowa Congressman and the loving husband for more than 50 years of the late Dody; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Leonard Boswell was the much-adored father of three children to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Leonard Boswell was born on a farm and served two decades in the United States Army, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, before entering public life; and
WHEREAS, A Vietnam veteran, the Honorable Leonard Boswell was Iowa Senate President before being elected to the United States Congress; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Leonard Boswell served in Congress as the Chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy & Poultry and was a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Leonard Boswell was a leader on issues affecting education and advocated for the expansion of the Pell Grant Program and the expansion of student loan subsidies; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Leonard Boswell passed legislation calling for the Department of Veterans Affairs to devise a comprehensive program to prevent suicides among veterans which led to the hiring of more counselors and created hotlines for troubled veterans; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Leonard Boswell serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Leonard Boswell was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Leonard Boswell imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of September, 2018, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Leonard Boswell for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Leonard Boswell.
