RESOLUTION HONORING OFFICER KENNETH MALKOWSKI ON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT

WHEREAS, Officer Kenneth Malkowski retired from the Chicago Police Department on April 6, 2018, after 31 years of distinguished service; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this momentous occasion by the Honorable Derrick G. Curtis, Alderman ofthe 18th Ward and former Chairman ofthe Chicago Police Memorial Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Officer Malkowski began his service with the Chicago Police Department on April 13, 1987; and

WHEREAS, During his career, Officer Malkowski worked Patrol and Tactical in the 006th and 008th Districts, in Gang Crimes South, and with the Special Operations Hostage Barricade Terrorist (HBT) unit; and

WHEREAS, As his career advanced within the Department, Officer Malkowski also worked in the Targeted Response Unit, the Public Housing Tactical Unit, and the Mass Transit Unit with a detail to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response team (VIPR); and

WHEREAS, Officer Malkowski was honored several times throughout his career for his courage and devotion to duty, receiving over 155 awards and commendations, including the Democratic National Convention Award, the Presidential Election Deployment Award 2008, the NATO Summit Service Award, the Superintendent's Award of Valor, and a Special Commendation; Officer Malkowski currently serves as Chairman ofthe Chicago Police Memorial Foundation; and

 

WHEREAS, Officer Malkowski dedicated his career to serving his City, and has proved himself to be a valuable asset to the Department, earning the respect of his peers, colleagues, and the public along the way; now therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-third day of November, 2020, do hereby congratulate Officer Kenneth Malkowski, Star 8216, on his retirement; express our heartfelt gratitude for his 31 years of exemplary service to the residents of Chicago; and extend to him our best wishes for continued health, happiness, prosperity, and much success in his next chapter; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Officer Kenneth Malkowski as a token of our esteem, honor, and respect.
