RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Peter Fasseas has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 82; and {
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Peter is survived by his wife, Paula (Sfarnas), his children Alexis and Drew, daughter-in-law Meghan, three grandchildren Katherine Polyxeni, Alexandra lone, and Olivia James, extended family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Peter was born in Chicago on June 10,1939 and grew up on Chicago's Northwest Side; and
WHEREAS, He attended high school at Culver Military Academy, Indiana, where he learned the value of discipline and perseverance, and went on to serve in the U.S. Army Intelligence; and
WHEREAS, After serving in the military, Peter obtained undergraduate and law degrees from Northwestern University; and
WHEREAS, In 1975, he married Paula Sfarnas, a Tucson, Arizona native, and after Paula moved to Chicago they both took the plunge on a banking career to acquire North Community Bank in Lakeview; and
WHEREAS, Peter and Paula eventually built a banking empire, the Metro Bank Group comprising of more than 10 separately chartered banks with names like Edens Bank, First Commercial Bank, and Metropolitan Bank & Trust growing to 2.5 billion in assets and ,100 employees; and
WHEREAS, Peter and Paula, along with their daughter Alexis, kept their profile relatively high with their continued involvement in the PAWS no-kill animal shelter in Chicago, which they founded in 1997; and
WHEREAS, After Peter's retirement, he continued serving the communities he loved through board and philanthropic service. He was a trustee and supporter of Culver Military Academy, The University of Arizona Foundation, the Hellenic Foundation, Chicago City Day School and PAWS Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Peter and Paula established the Fasseas Foundation, funding The University of Arizona Fasseas Cancer Center, supporting cancer research at Dana Farber and other leading medical univers...
