RESOLUTION
A resolution calling for a hearing on the state of the viaducts and bridges in the city of Chicago to be held under the Committee on Transportation and Public Way. Where representatives from CDOT will updated alderpersons on maintenance programs available and status of safety reports on the city's viaducts.
WHEREAS, the state of our infrastructure is glaringly deficient, most notably in the steel foundations of the various viaducts that prop up our city's massive rail system.
WHEREAS, federal programs exist, but are often underutilized, to address lacking maintenance and repair of critical public ways.
WHEREAS, the federal government does not address these issues directly and puts the onus on the municipality's and state's transportation departments (CDOT & IDOT).
WHEREAS, funding for such repair programs are available through, among others, the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvement (CRISI) program.
THEREFORE BE IT RECOGNIZED, upon the passing ofthis resolution that the Committee on Transportation and Public Way organize said hearings, as well as collaborate with the CDOT on keeping up to date reporting on the city's viaducts and utilize the Federal Railroad Administration Bridge Inspection Reporting system to collect the data needed to assess the state of and safety of our city's viaducts.
