RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Kenneth W. Sain has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 85; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Ken is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Sharon (nee King), three children Ken (Lindsey) Sain, Kelly (Derek) Scully and Karolee (Chris) Keller and six grandchildren.; and

WHEREAS, The youngest of three children, Ken was born in Chicago and grew up on the south side of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Ken's dad, Frank was Military Police in WW1 and returned to Chicago as a guard at the city jail, where he worked his way up the ranks and was selected as Warden of Cook County Jail; and

WHEREAS, As son of a Warden, Ken lived onsite at the jail learning an important life lesson that everyone matters, and to show respect to all people, including inmates; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from Fenwick High School, Ken stayed in Chicago and attended Loyola University where he founded Sigma Delta Phi Fraternity; and

WHEREAS, After college, Ken became a Sheriffs Deputy patrolling on a motorcycle while his father was Sheriff of Cook County; and

WHEREAS, Ken joined the Navy and attended Officer Candidate School (OCS); and

WHEREAS, Upon completion of OCS, Ken was assigned to the Navy's legal office to prosecute court martials; and

WHEREAS, With Ken's unique background in law enforcement and military prosecutor, doors opened to top law schools; and

WHEREAS, Ken received his J. D. from Vanderbilt Law School; and

WHEREAS, Ken joined the City of Chicago's Law Department after graduating from law school and worked with communities and police during turbulent times and protests; and

WHEREAS, In 1968, Ken joined the Mayor's office under Richard J. Daley and built a strong relationship with the Mayor, and ultimately rose up the ranks to become Deputy Mayor of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Around this same time, Ken dated Sharon King and married after months of courtship;...
