RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF LANIER WHITE
WHEREAS, Lanier Edward White, Jr., loving father, brother, and 18th Ward resident, transitioned into eternal rest on April 17, 2023; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of Lanier's passing by the Honorable Derrick G. Curtis, Alderman of the 18th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Lanier was born to the late Lanier E. White, Sr. and Shirley Lane on March 19, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Dunbar High School, Lanier went on to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, Lanier later married Melbra Smith, and to that union two daughters were born; and
WHEREAS, After returning home from serving in the Army, Lanier served in a variety of political roles and also worked at Oscar Mayer; and
WHEREAS, Lanier confessed his life to Christ and served as a Deacon in Madison, Wisconsin, under the leadership of Pastor Stubbs; and
WHEREAS, Lanier was a chef and truly loved to cook - one of his greatest memories was working in his dad's restaurant with him - and his favorite dishes included corned beef, short ribs, and beer ribs; his church and family were often blessed by his "uniquely prepared" meals; and
WHEREAS, Always competitive, Lanier enjoyed a good game of cards or a chess match, and passed much his time sewing, collective things at a flea market like Fred Sandford, and serving the community alongside Alderman Derrick Curtis; and
WHEREAS, Lanier was preceded in death by his dad, Lanier, and his brother Lester, and leaves to cherish his memories: his mom, Shirley Lane; his two daughters, Lanneka White (Seanneka, Demond-Bronx, and Diamond) and Takeshi James (Kyle); seven sisters, Detria, Keter-Thomas, Denise, Stephanie-Sam, Cynthia, Wonda-Ronnie, and Lynne; two brothers, Derrick and Austin- Kamaria; his uncle Harold, both his aunt Joyces, aunt Elizabeth, a special friend Diane, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends; and
