RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Kathy McMahon was in the parking lot of Whole Foods store located at 8020 North Cicero Avenue shortly after noon on Saturday, December 18, 2010, when she became the victim of a theft; and
WHEREAS, Kathy McMahon was waiting for an elevator in the parking while returning to her car following a pre-Christmas shopping trip when she was suddenly confronted by two would-be criminals; and
WHEREAS, While one of the thieves pretended to trip in front of her, the second individual circled around behind her and removed her pocketbook from inside a purse; and
WHEREAS, Once Kathy McMahon realized her belongings had been stolen, she reacted with great decisiveness - and a resounding wallop; and
WHEREAS, Kathy McMahon, a 116-pound suburban grandmother, raised her fist and forcefully punched the thief in the chest, while screaming at the top of her voice for the man to return her wallet; and
WHEREAS, The thief was so utterly stunned that he immediately complied with her demand, removed the wallet from his coat pocket, and surrendered it to Kathy McMahon; and
WHEREAS, Kathy McMahon's brave and sudden actions caused the two men to flee the scene; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of January, 2011, do hereby recognize and applaud Kathy McMahon for her courageous actions; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Kathy McMahon.
