SALUTE TO MOLLIE JOHNSON SHERROD
WHEREAS, Mollie Johnson Sherrod, an outstanding citizen and member of her community, will enter her 95lh year on December 28, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Mollie Johnson Sherrod was born in Taylors, South Carolina to the union of Thad and Maggie Griffin Johnson. Mollie was united in holy matrimony to Walter G. Sherrod, a veteran of WWII; and
WHEREAS, Mollie Johnson Sherrod is far more active than your average 95 year old. She still loves to travel and, at the age of 91, applied for and received her first U.S. passport. She is still active in her church, the First Rising Mount Zion Baptist in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Mollie Johnson Sherrod was featured in a book called "Wise Women of Color" by Dorothy Bailey that is scheduled to be released in 2011. She is depicted as a well-rounded employee of the Internal Revenue Service; and
WHEREAS, Mollie Johnson Sherrod is indeed a wise woman who handles life very well. She managed her money with care and currently resides in the fastest-growing community in Washington, D.C where she is highly respected as well as thought of fondly by her neighbors; and
WHEREAS, Mollie Johnson Sherrod celebrates her 95th birthday with two grandsons, six great-grandchildren, two nephews, one niece, seven great-nephews, six-great nieces, including Debbie Gray-Blair, Chief of Staff to the Honorable JoAnn Thompson, Alderman of the 16th Ward, seven great-great nephews and six great-great nieces, as well as a host of other loving relatives and friends; and
BE IT RESOLVED; That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled on this 13th Day of January 2011 AD, do hereby salute Mollie Johnson Sherrod on the occasion of her 95th birthday and extend our very best wishes for continued health, happiness and success in any future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Mollie Johnson Sherrod.
