WHEREAS, Elizabeth Edwards has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 61; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, for the past six years Elizabeth Edwards had bravely battled breast cancer; and
WHEREAS, spending most of her childhood moving from military base to military base, Elizabeth Edwards never had a hometown until she eventually settled in Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Edwards was a successful lawyer, a dedicated partner in her husband's political ambitions, and a best selling author who chronicled her cancer and her grief over the 1996 car accident which killed her 16-year-old son Wade; and
WHEREAS, in recent years Elizabeth Edwards became an advocate for health care reform and testified before the United States Congress; and
WHEREAS, through her pain and sorrow, Elizabeth Edwards endured with fortitude and grace and will long remain a source of inspiration; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Edwards leaves behind three children, Cate, Emma Claire, and Jack; and
WHEREAS, the hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Elizabeth Edward serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Elizabeth Edwards to family members, friends, and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Edwards was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends, and admirers; and
WHEREAS, to her beloved family, Elizabeth Edwards imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service, and dignity; Now, Therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of December 2010, do hereby commemorate Elizabeth
