RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Robert Georgine has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of seventy-eight; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Robert Georgine was a retired labor leader and the loving husband of Mary Rita; and
WHEREAS, Robert Georgine was the much adored father of Robert, Jr., Georgine Baugher, Rosemarie Hechinger and Mary Beth Cotterell and the grandfather of nine to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Cabrini-Green following the death of his father, Robert Georgine entered the building trades at the age of sixteen; and
WHEREAS, Robert Georgine rose through the union ranks to become a prominent labor official and was elected in 1970 to serve as President of the Wood, Wire and Metal Lathers; and
WHEREAS, In 1974 Robert Georgine became President of the Building and Construction Trades Department of the AFL-CIO and earned a reputation as a consensus builder and an ardent champion of labor issues; and
WHEREAS, From 1990 until 2003, Robert Georgine served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Union Labor Life Insurance Company, a firm founded by labor to offer low cost insurance to workers; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Robert Georgine serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Robert Georgine to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Robert Georgine will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Robert Georgine imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of April, 2011, do hereby commemorate Robert Georgine for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
