SUBSTITUTE ORDINANCE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
SECTION 1. Section 14X-8-802 ofthe Municipal Code of Chicago is hereby amended by deleting the language struck through and by inserting the language underscored, as follows:
14X-8-802 HEATING SYSTEMS.
(Omitted text is not affected by this ordinance.) 14X-8-802.2.2 Heat to be provided.
Dwelling units and sleeping units to which heat is furnished from a heating plant used in common for the purpose of heating more than one such unit must be supplied with heat from September 15th of each year to June 1 st of the succeeding year so that the occupants may secure, without such undue restriction of ventilation as to interfere with proper sanitary conditions when all windows and exterior doors are closed, a minimum temperature of 68°F (20°C) at 8:30 a.m. and thereafter until 10:30 p.m. and 66°F (19°C) at 10:30 p.m. and thereafter until 8:30 a.m. in all habitable spaces, toilot rooms, and bathrooms, habitable spaces, toilet rooms, and bathrooms. This section does not prevent an owner from disengaging heating equipment or engaging cooling equipment between these dates as long as the reguired minimum temperature is maintained within dwelling units and sleeping units.
Exception: In buildings where the same facilities are used to provide both heating and cooling to the units, the minimum temperature is 64°F (18°C) at all hours:
Between September 15 and October 15, prior to the first date when the nighttime outdoor temperature falls below 45°F (7°C).
Between May 1 and June 1, on or after the first date when the daytime outdoor temperature exceeds 75°F (24°C).
